Guns-N-Roses and Money Saving

Well, to borrow a phrase from one of sports most awesome broadcasters, Al Michaels, "Do you believe in miracles" Because Guns-N-Roses are finally putting out the long awaited "Chinese Democracy album. Orginally begun back in 1994 when Slash and Axl were still on speaking terms. The album will finally see the light of day at Best Buy stores on Sunday November 23rd. Of course everybody has since departed the band. Really nobody left buy Axel. I don't think the guitars on this new album are nearly as sharp as Slash. But Axel owned the rights to the name, therefore it will be release as Guns-N-Roses. But no Duff and no Steven Adler(he succumbed to drug addiction and got booted out.)

Here's a Wikkipedia entry on what has transpired in the past year.....

On May 4, 2007 three more tracks leaked from Chinese Democracy; an updated version of "I.R.S.", "The Blues" and the title track. All three tracks had previously been played live. Guns N' Roses embarked on the 2007 leg of the Chinese Democracy World Tour in Mexico on June, followed by dates on Australia and Japan. The songs "Nice Boys" and "Don't Cry" were played for the first time since the Use Your Illusion Tour. The tour ended on the twentieth anniversary of Appetite for Destruction's release date, in Osaka. During this tour, the band featured Axl Rose, Robin Finck, Ron Thal and Richard Fortus on guitars, Tommy Stinson on bass, Dizzy Reed and Chris Pitman on keyboards and Frank Ferrer on drums.
Rose appears as a guest performer on three of the tracks on Sebastian Bach's album, Angel Down, which was released on November 20, 2007. [33]
On March 26, 2008, Dr Pepper announced a plan to give everyone in America - except the band's former guitarists Slash and Buckethead - a free can of Dr Pepper if the band released Chinese Democracy before the end of 2008. Rose added, "As some of Buckethead's performances are on our album, I'll share my Dr Pepper with him."[34] [35]

The next day, on March 27, 2008, the band announced that they had hired a new management team, headed by Irving Azoff and Andy Gould. [36]
On April 5, 2008, a picture of Robin Finck appeared on Nine Inch Nails web page [37], under the title "Welcome Back!" starting the rumour of his possible reunion with Trent Reznor. Later, on April 11, 2008, Robin Finck expressed his happiness on playing again with NIN. [38] On April 20, 2008, on Guns N' Roses official website, Axl Rose expressed his surprise about Robin Finck's latest news but assure that the band was working with its management on the release of Chinese Democracy and thanked the fans for the continuous shows of support [39]
Nine tracks purported to be from Chinese Democracy were leaked to an online site on June 19, 2008 and quickly removed due to a cease-and-desist letter from the band's label. Six of the leaked tracks had surfaced previously in some form, while three were new. The leaked songs are fleshed out more than previously heard tracks.[40][41]
On July 14, 2008, Harmonix, in conjunction with MTV Games, officially announced the release of a new song from the upcoming Chinese Democracy album, called "Shackler's Revenge", through their new game Rock Band 2. Also the song "Chinese Democracy" is being played on the bands website.
In late August, speculation about the impending release of the album resurfaced, further fuelled by separate reports from both Rolling Stone [42] and Billboard [43] about a November 25 release date as a Best Buy exclusive. On October 15, Best Buy's website was updated to accept pre-orders for the album, which will be available both on CD and vinyl, and on October 16 the page was updated with the official track list and artwork.
On October 21st various radio stations [44] announced that the title track of Chinese Democracy would be available to download by U.S radio outlets the next day, subsequently confirmed by a report from Billboard. [45]. The single is already in regular rotation nationwide. [46]
Finally, on October 22, the band's managers, Best Buy, and Interscope Geffen A&M Records officially issued a joint press release confirming the much anticipated release of the album in the US on November 23 as a Best Buy exclusive. The album will be available in 3 formats: CD, digital download and vinyl (with a free digital download option). [47]
On November 11, 2008 the iTunes Music Store began accepting pre-orders for the Chinese Democracy album, with the title track available for download on the same day. By November 13, 2008, ten days before the official release of the album, the single had topped the general iTunes Music Store chart in Greece, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Finland. In addition to being the No. 1 song and No. 1 rock song in the above countries, it became the No. 1 rock song on iTunes in the U.S., Canada, France and the U.K.[48]

So there you have it...the whole sordid story! That's the way it goes and Guns-N-Roses is back!

With cold and snow upon us...I'd thought it would be good to review some money saving tips from the Money Pit on AOL...
Here ya go:

Six Free Ways to Cut Heating Costs
By Tom Kraeutler, AOL Home Improvement Editor
In a report recently released, the DOE's Energy Information Administration said heating oil prices are projected to average $2.75 per gallon, a reduction of about 17% from the 2007-2008 heating season. Propane prices are projected to average $2.22 this winter, a decrease of 10% from last winter. And natural gas prices are projected to average $13.02 per thousand cubic feet, a slight increase of 2% from last winter.
Bottom line, it's looking like heating your house this winter is going to be close to an all time bargain. With this part of the economy actually working in your benefit, there are a few things you can to actually drive heating costs down even further, without spending a dime:
DO WINDOWS – Keep window shades open and curtains pulled back during the day to take advantage of the sun's energy. At night, keep shades tightly drawn to both insulate the glass and reduce drafts caused by convection, which occurs when warm heated air strikes the cold glass, chills and then falls on you as you are stretched out on the couch, causing an uncomfortable draft.
SET THERMOSTAT – Yes, we know figuring out how to program your clock set-back thermostat sends you psychologically back to the days you spent staring at a blinking VCR. But do it! Programming your heat to go down when you are sleeping or not home, and back up only when you are active in the house can cut heating costs by a whopping 10%.
LAUNDRY LATER – Running your dryer not only dries your clothes, it also sends lots of excess heat into the house. Time your dryer cycles to supply heat when you need it, like during the day when you first get home from work. Running the dryer when you go to bed is a waste since you are already tucked snugly beneath the covers.
REVERSE SPIN - Ceiling fans' reversible motors can spin indoor air into comfortable savings year-round, pushing warm air down in the winter and pulling cold air up in the summer. Add even more savings by installing an Energy Star-qualified model, which is up to 50% more energy efficient than a conventional fan.
PUT OUT THE FIRE – Even though the thought of a roaring fire conjures up scenes from a Norman Rockwell print, you'll save some dough if you skip the fireplace as a source of home heating. Most fireplaces are a home heating vacuum cleaner that sucks expensive, heated air right up the chimney. Instead, use them selectively as you would any luxury expense – because that is exactly what they are to run.
SKIP THE BUDGET PLAN – If your fuel supplier offers a so-called budget plan where the cost of heating is spread over a 12 month period of time, cancel and pay for only what you use. Unless your income is such that you can not take the least bit of fluctuation, it's never been a better time to just pay for what you need.

Post Election Mania

Here's one for the environmentalists among us...
A news wire story about the environmental effects of the 2008 Presidential Campaign.

We all know the campaigns spent millions to get their messages across. But what about the environmental cost -- specifically how much the campaigns of Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain contributed to global warming. Based on total campaign expenditures -- including flying, driving, and printing materials -- it's estimated that the Obama camp emitted nearly 78,000 tons of climate-change inducing carbon dioxide (CO2) and the McCain campaign roughly 59,000 tons of CO2. The campaigns would need to plant a combined 18 square miles of new trees to offset the climate changing pollution they caused.

The Mountaineers take on Cincinnati on Saturday night at 7pm at Milan Puskar Stadium.
Big game as the Eeers are undefeated in the Big East. A BCS bowl is still within our grasp.

Congrats to Governor Joe Manchin who easily won reelection on Tuesday. He's done a superb job and will continue to do his best for the citizens of this state.

Don't forget to sign up for Dirty Jobs with Raven Rock ....the logo is on the home page. I'm going out every week to pick a winner. It could be you. Good luck

Electrifying Election Day

Just got back from voting. Waited for a bit. But it was enjoyable talking with people at the voting booth. First time I had ever used an electronic voting machine. I have always used the punch machines.(the kind that had hanging chads in the Florida elections that were disputed)
It's really a magnificient privilege to be able to vote for the candidate of our choice. That's what has driven our great country for 232 years. Representative government. And we have no one to blame but ourselves if we don't vote or get the candidates we want. The secret is, if you don't like who's in office, vote them out or run yourself. I think frustration with politics makes a lot of people get more involved. Many a candidate has decided to run because they thought they were more in tune with what people wanted. And that's a good thing. We need all of us to be involved for the country to continue to be the greatest.

Apathy could be one of the greatest faults of many of us, when it comes to electing officials to govern us. Then again, you could be like me....have a wife, four kids and fighting to keep your head above water every day. Seems I work so much just to keep us floating and therefore I don't get involved in a lot of politics because I simply don't have time. I think that's where quite a few Americans are at this time. Just working hard, trying to live life and get by. Seems everything else comes in a distant second when you're just trying to support a family.

Maybe when I get older I'll run for office.
Director of music to de-stress people. We need that office on a state and national level and then
the world would be so much happier. We'd all live to tell each other about the latest cool song we heard and how it changed our world.
Ah.....peace, love and harmony. Like it's 1967 all over again.

Have a great election day!
Vote and be proud you're an American!

Some interesting news about AC/DC's cool new album, "Black Ice"

AC/DC AND ECONOMY DON'T MIX

A British newspaper has pointed out that the success of AC/DC albums has coincided with the darkest of economic times in the UK. AC/DC's latest album, Black Ice, has zoomed to the top of the UK album charts, giving them their first number one there in 28 years. It's been discovered that Back in Black topped the UK charts in 1980, just as inflation had reached 20% and unemployment inched towards 2 million. The Aussie band receded a little in popularity, by their own high standards, in the years of economic success that followed but, says a newspaper, "right on cue the album that returned the band to its heyday was The Razors Edge, released in 1990 -- just as Britain headed towards its last recession.
"The breakdown:

Britain's Highway to Hell 973 - AC/DC Economy: Start of the oil crisis, which saw the price quadruple

1980 - AC/DC release breakthrough album Back In Black Economy:Inflation in UK reaches 20% and unemployment nears 2 million

1990 - AC/DC score comeback with The Razor's EdgeEconomy: Recession in UK imminent

2008: AC/DC top UK album chartsEconomy: Biggest world recession in decades looms

Big week....we're playing the new AC/DC tune, "Rock-N-Roll Train" from their album "Black Ice" which comes out on October 21st ONLY at Walmart stores. You can't get this one digitally.
Their first new album in eight years. Make sure to check out the interview with Angus Young on our home page. And AC/DC will be rocking Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh on January 7th! It's gonna be a party. Here's more on AC/DC.

The lyrics to "Rock and Roll Train," the first new song from A-C/D-C in eight years, don't contain the words "rock and roll train." Guitarist Angus Young tells us that's because "some lines sing really better than others, and runaway train sounded more clear and more pronounceable... But the intention was rock and roll train." "Rock and Roll Train" is the first single from A-C/D-C's new album, Black Ice, their first in eight years, will be streamed at VH1-dot-com and VH1Classic-dot-com Monday through October 20th. On T-V, V-H-1 Classic will air Total A-C/D-C, 24 hours of the Aussie band, on October 19th.

A-C/D-C's upcoming album Black Ice will be available with three different collectible covers. Each design features the standard A-C/D-C logo in yellow, red or white. The only thing that's the same on each cover is a caricature of guitarist Angus Young at the top. Black Ice will be available exclusively at Wal-Mart, Sam's Club and ACDC-dot-com on October 21st.

RUMORS, NEWS AND NOTES FROM THE WORLD OF CLASSIC ROCK

With Robert Plant proclaiming he won't tour with Led Zeppelin, the rumor mill has heated up about what vocalist might fill his shoes on a potential tour with Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonaham. Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider has added to the fire by saying Alter Bridge frontman Myles Kennedy is already lined up as Plant's replacement. Snider told Canada's Much Music, "They're saying [to Robert], 'We're all rehearsed, we're ready to go, here's a gazillion dollars on the table. If you don't do it, we're going out with this kid. And he can sing the [crap] out of Zeppelin.' And they're gonna hope that Robert, at the last minute, will go, 'Okay,' and step in." When Kennedy has the time to rehearse is another question, as Alter Bridge have a month-long European tour that starts next month and are filming a D-V-D in London November 8th.

It looks like the makers of Doctor Pepper are going to follow through on their promise of a free can for everyone in the U-S if Guns n' Roses release Chinese Democracy in 2008. With a November 23rd release date set, Doctor Pepper exec Tony Jacobs tells the New York Post, "If the rumors are true, we're putting the Dr Pepper on ice." Jacobs hasn't explained how the free Doctor Pepper will be distributed if Chinese Democracy actually sees the light of day!

Jackson Browne will be part of the Dream Believe Achieve Inspiration Gala -- a benefit for children and families of South Los Angeles -- on October 21st in L-A. Also on the bill are Earth Wind & Fire, Smokey Robinson and others.
Santana's Live Your Light tour ended last night in Concord, California.
Styx performed over the weekend for the first time in 30 years. They're now off until November 13th when they do three shows in another sunny locale, Florida, followed by a New Year's Eve show in Tempe, Arizona.
Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford was NASCAR driver Bobby Labonte's guest Saturday night at the Bank of America 500 at the Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina. Whitford, a huge race fan, lives in the Charlotte area.
Def Leppard has canceled their two shows in India -- October 17th in Bangalore and the 19th in Mumbai.

And for you fans of former WVU coach(do I hear someone laughing out there) Rich Rodriquez...there's a brand new website you need to check out. They're even trying to make money off of his misfortune at Michigan. Surf to: www.firerrod.com

You're Gonna Miss This

Can't help but hear that Trace Adkins song in my head over the last week. I know we're a rock station and I'm as passionate about rock-n-roll as anybody. But I also have a passion for great lyrics and country songs. And my life in the past two weeks has needed a country song. My mom died on Friday September 26th. She had hidden the fact she had a muscle wasting disease . In fact she had battled it most of her adult life and my brother, sister and myself had no idea the fight she was waging against destruction. She would never go to a doctor and didn't take much medicine. She just put on a grin and beared it all those years. We had no idea the physical battles she was facing. But she was a fighter and fought like a champion until she became too tired to carry on anymore. I can't help but think she's looking down now and telling me to keep on keepin on and live, laugh and love. That I'm doing and I thank Dave Murdock for covering on-air for me last week. I'm still having nightmares and not sleeping all that well. It was a sudden death and my mom had never once wavered in making us think she was gonna live a long, long time. But we never know when our last page will be turned. So to paraphrase another big time song...."Live Like You Were Dyin"

Lots of rockin' fun this week in the area....
Southern Fried Rocker Chris Knight is coming to Ledbetter's in downtown Buckhannon this Saturday night(October 11) Mark Rogers has your chance to win free tickets every afternoon this week from 3pm to 7pm! Congratulations to our Rocklahoma Contest Winner!
Chris Johnson of Volgo, West Virginia!

ROCKLAHOMA GRAND PRIZE WINNER ANNOUNCED!
This year, we had an especially tough time picking a winner for our HUGE VIP Rocklahoma contest. After pouring through thousands of entries, we whittled it down to our top 50. Then we let the HOH staff start voting. We figured that any entry that got multiple votes would make it into the Top 5, and then we would decide from there. Well, it turns out that only one entry got a vote from every single judge! So, the winner is ......

Chris Johnson from Volgo, WV. Listens to WFBY, 102.3FM out of Clarksburg, WV!!!

Chris will be escorting his fiancee, Theresa, to the show and they couldn't be happier. Chris and Theresa get 5 nights hotel, airfare, VIP tickets for all 5 nights, and a chance to meet some of their favorite artists in the backstage HOH lounge. When we asked Chris to name his top 3 picks at Rocklahoma, he chose Tesla, Warrant and Queensryche but said, "Honestly, there isn't one band playing we wouldn't be honored to meet." We're looking forward to meeting Chris and Theresa too!

Making your rock n' roll dreams come true, we're the House of Hair. As Chris says, "I'm still walking on a cloud."

Here's Chris' winning entry, in case you want to hone your skills for next year:

Winning Rocklahoma 08 Contest Entry
I've camped out for Queensryche tickets in sub 20 degree weather. I've traveled from West Virginia to Rumford, Maine to watch L.A. Guns play in front of 16 people. I skipped my high school prom to go see AC/DC. I've driven three hours in a blizzard to see Tesla. There are two K-Mart's near where I live. I don't refer to them by the towns that they are in. Instead one is the K-Mart that I found Twisted Sister's Come Out and Play record at, the other is the K-Mart that I found Black N Blue's Nasty Nasty album at. Once while waiting outside for a Faster Pussycat show me and one of their techs saw a funnel cloud forming in the distance. Rather than come up with an escape route, we came up with a set list the band could play acoustically if the club lost power. I've bought Bang Tango's Psycho Cafe album seven times. One for me and six to give out for Christmas presents. I have four cats named Nikki, Tommy, Mick and Vince. I cried when Randy Castillo died. I'm not saying I'm the biggest metal or hard rock fan in the world. I truly believe the devotion this genre of music gets from its fans is a big reason why it is so special, why it will never go away and why an event like Rocklahoma can take place. I'm just a guy with a few good stories and a lot of great memories. That same L.A. Guns show I mentioned above, is where I met my fiance, who is also my best friend.

So I feel like I'm a pretty good example of how strong the power of music can be. I've led a blessed life thanks to this music and the incredible lineup of bands at Rocklahoma have helped build the soundtrack of my life. If Dee and the good folks at House of Hair select me as the winner of the Rocklahoma contest, I can promise you nobody will sing along louder, raise their fist higher or carry the banner of rock and metal with more pride than me....that's the least I could do for something I owe that much to. Thanks so much.

-- Chris Johnson from Volgo, W. Listens to WFBY, 102.3FM out of Clarksburg, WV

More on Ultra 90....
WHAT IS Ultra 90™?

Ultra 90™ is an all-natural Collagen Protein Formula working as a nutritional supplement that assists the body in shedding excess body fat and toxins naturally.

Ultra 90™ does not stimulate, starve or trick your body into weight loss. It simply supports the body's lean muscle tissue and fuels the body's natural mechanism in burning off excess fats and sugars more efficiently. For those who are underweight or in good physical condition, Ultra 90™ encourages stamina and energy.

How it works

As we age our body's ability to digest whole food proteins becomes less and less efficient. Also as we age our bodies ability to create and maintain collagen diminishes. Since collagen is the second most abundant substance in our body after water, the effects from this loss are very visible. We get fine lines and wrinkles, our joints begin to stiffen and ache, our hair becomes lifeless and our bodies lose tone. In order to counteract the loss of collagen we can support our body by supplementing with Ultra 90™. Collagen can be used by the body to tighten and tone the muscles, ease and erase fine lines and wrinkles, add body to limp and lifeless hair, increase joint function and flexibility. And if taken when dieting and on an empty stomach, it can help reduce body fat.

BENEFITS OF Ultra 90™

Safe, all natural - No caffeine or stimulants. No ephedrine or amphetamines- Does not interfere with any medications and no known side effects.
No muscle loss - Assists muscle tone & helps strengthen joints
Assists in building lean muscle-lean muscle weighs more than fat resulting in loss of body inches
Helps increase energy & stamina due to the body burning off excess body fats and sugars more efficiently
Helps shorten work-out recovery time
Helps reduce wrinkles and age spots
No strict dieting or exercise necessary
Promotes an overall sense of well-being

The Rolling Stones new Martin Scorsese-directed concert movie, Shine a Light, was not the number-one movie this past weekend, but it did have a respectable showing its first weekend in theaters. Shine a Light earned an estimated one-point-five-million dollars from its limited release in 276 theaters. U-2's latest concert film, U-2 3-D, earned 964-thousand its opening weekend in 61 theaters in January.

Scorsese has used numerous Stones songs in his movie over the years, especially "Gimme Shelter," which was featured in Goodfellas, Casino and The Departed. Ironically, it's not in Shine a Light.

Spring is Here and I'm Hauling a Spare Tire!

Big Easter weekend for you I hope....How about those Mountaineers...wow, a win over Duke. And the Lady 'eers won their NCAA opener as well over New Mexico. March Madness reigns.

And we'll have your free tickets to see Dave Mason at the Metropolitian Theatre in Morgantown on April 2nd!!

Last year about this time I had surgery on my back(years of torture to it on the ski slopes and mountain biking had caused it to become somewhat arthritic.) After a three disc replacement I have gained about 30 pounds. Enough is enough!! Last week I began taking ULTRA 90. I had some radio friends in Charlotte who use it and knew they were having success with the product. Already, I feel like I've got more energy and I've dropped about 2 and a half pounds in a week. I'm looking to get my weight back to about 180 or less. Currently I'm at 237 and 1/2. I started a week ago at 240...so I'm stoked about getting this whole spare tire off of me.
You can try ULTRA 90 for yourself by surfing over to: www.888ultra90.com

Fourth Annual MusiCares MAP FundSM Benefit Concert on May 9 to Honor Alice Cooper and Slash
Concert Event — Sponsored In Part By Gibson Foundation — At The Music Box @ Fonda In Hollywood Raises Funds For MusiCares® Addiction Recovery Services

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The fourth annual MusiCares MAP FundSM benefit concert, honoring legendary artist Alice Cooper and renowned guitarist Slash, will be held on May 9, 2008, at The Music Box @ Fonda, 6126 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, Calif. All proceeds will benefit the MusiCares® MAP Fund, which provides members of the music community access to addiction recovery treatment regardless of their financial situation. The benefit is sponsored in part by the Gibson Foundation.

Cooper will be honored as the recipient of the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for his dedication to and support of the MusiCares MAP Fund and his devotion to helping other addicts with the recovery process. Slash will be the recipient of the MusiCares From the Heart Award for his unconditional friendship and dedication to the mission and goals of the organization.

"The issues of addiction and recovery have been front and center this past year," said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy® and President of MusiCares. "And our annual MusiCares MAP Fund benefit draws attention and raises funds to support the critical resources we offer members of the music community from all walks of life who may be struggling with addiction. We thank Alice and Slash for being strong supporters of our cause — it's more important now than ever before."

The evening will feature a buffet dinner and a special performance by Blind Melon (Glen Graham, Brad Smith, Rogers Stevens, Christopher Thorn and Travis Warren). In addition, there will be a performance by the all-star group Camp Freddy (Chris Chaney, Donovan Leitch, Billy Morrison, Dave Navarro and Matt Sorum) along with some special guests. The evening will also feature special performances by Cooper and Slash. A range of other artists and guests will be announced shortly. Out of respect for the clients the MusiCares MAP Fund serves, the event will be alcohol-free.

"When I got sober more than 20 years ago, the MusiCares MAP Fund did not exist," said Cooper. "It's so important that musicians and other music industry people have access to the kind of resources MusiCares and the MAP Fund provide and I'm proud to be honored this year and help raise funds to support this significant work."

"There are specific challenges to being sober in the music world, but for individuals who have addiction problems, every story has a common thread," said Slash. "And that is the first step to recovery is to ask for help — for music people, the MusiCares MAP Fund provides that assistance."

Tickets are offered at three price levels: floor placement in a private living room grouping of 10 for $12,500; floor seating for $1,000 each; and balcony seating for $100 each.

About the Honorees:

Alice Cooper

Being described as a legend in one's own time is certainly a blatantly abused cliché, but no one has taken a vivid imagination and unusual persona to the people with as much controversy and success as Alice Cooper. Cooper touched a deep nerve in the minds of teenagers everywhere, bringing him countless gold and platinum albums from around the world, including Love It To Death, Billion Dollar Babies, Welcome To My Nightmare and Trash, featuring such anthems as "Eighteen," "Elected," "School's Out," and "No More Mr. Nice Guy," as well as the classics "Only Women Bleed" and "Poison."

With plans for a new album in 2008, he shows no sign of slowing down. Cooper’s recently released book Golf Monster, an autobiographical book about how he transferred his alcohol addiction to a golf addiction, is chock full of anecdotes, photos, golf tips, and his trademark sense of humor. The book was published in hardcover in North America in May 2007 and in the UK in September 2007, and will be released in paperback in May 2008. Recent tour highlights have included a stop at the legendary Montreux Festival, filmed for a recently released live DVD, three shows in 2006 in North America as special guests to the Rolling Stones, and concerts throughout North and South America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Asia. The road is still Cooper's second home as he continues to tour extensively throughout the world, with a full schedule planned for his 2008 itinerary.

Slash

Saul Hudson, also known as Slash, formed Guns N' Roses in 1986 with Steven Adler (drums), Duff McKagan (bass), Axl Rose (vocals) and Izzy Stradlin (guitar). Shortly thereafter, GNR was known across the globe as a new rock and roll sensation. After the successful "Use Your Illusion" tour, GNR decided to take a break. Needing to play music, Slash formed his own band Slash's Snakepit, which issued its successful album It's Five O'Clock Somewhere in 1995.

In 2003, Velvet Revolver was formed by former members of Guns N' Roses — Slash, McKagan and Matt Sorum (who replaced Adler on drums in 1990) — along with Scott Weiland (vocals) from Stone Temple Pilots and Dave Kushner (guitar) from Wasted Youth. Their 2004 debut album, Contraband, sold incredibly well and garnered them a 2004 GRAMMY Award for Best Hard Rock Performance for "Slither." With the release of their second album, Libertad, in 2007 and the subsequent world tour, Velvet Revolver has become a rock band of magnitude, and Slash has earned his title as one of rock and roll's great guitar players.

Established in 1989 by The Recording Academy, MusiCares provides a safety net of critical assistance for music people in times of need. MusiCares' services and resources cover a wide range of financial, medical and personal emergencies, and each case is treated with integrity and confidentiality. MusiCares also focuses the resources and attention of the music industry on human service issues that directly impact the health and welfare of the music community. As a result of acquiring MAP in September 2004, MusiCares developed the MusiCares MAP Fund as a pool of resources set aside specifically to address addiction recovery and sober living needs. Named for the Musicians' Assistance Program, the MusiCares MAP Fund represents the joint goal of MAP and MusiCares to provide members of the music community access to addiction recovery treatment regardless of their financial circumstances.
